A special evening combining the talents of two fabulous musicians rooted in the lilt and beauty of Celtic and Irish music : Sue Richards, internationally known performer, teacher, composer and author brings us Celtic Harp and Robin Bullock is hailed as a “Celtic guitar god” by Baltimore City Paper and “one of the best folk instrumentalists in the business” by Sing Out! Magazine.

Robin Bullock has become a regular feature here at Institute of Musical Traditions, but varying lineups and the intricacy of his arrangements make every show more powerful than the last. His virtuosity on guitar, cittern and mandolin blends the ancient melodies of the Celtic lands, their vigorous American descendants, and the masterworks of the Baroque and Renaissance eras into one powerful musical vision. The 17th-century harp tunes of legendary Irish bard Turlough O’Carolan, the spirited jigs and reels of rural Ireland, the haunting ballads of the southern Appalachians and the timeless compositions of Bach, Dowland and Francesco da Milano all find a musical common ground in Robin’s music, where lightning-fast fingerwork one moment is perfectly balanced with tender, quiet intimacy the next. A warm, friendly presence onstage, Robin effortlessly creates a magical world for the audience with his multi-instrumental wizardry, taking them on an unforgettable journey into the deep heart’s core and through the music of the spheres.

Sue Richards has recorded dozens of CDs, and has entertained audiences throughout the U.S. and Europe. After first studying the concert harp in Ohio with Lucy Lewis and Jean Harriman, Sue turned to the Celtic harp and the Irish and Scottish traditional music of her heritage.  Since then, Sue has performed numerous times for the Embassy of Ireland in Washington, DC, has twice played for President Bill Clinton, and recently added Queen Elizabeth II and President and Mrs. Bush to her list. Sue has sat in with The Chieftains and has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion.  She has performed in Scotland at Celtic Connections in Glasgow and at theEdinburgh International Harp Festival, and she recently toured Norway and Sweden with the Harpa ensemble.
