Backroads & Bayous combines Karen's two musical passions,
early country music and traditional Cajun music. The two styles
are
close first cousins with a similar spirit. Karen performs regularly
with twogroups The Blue Moon Cowgirls (Ann Porcella, Dana Ward &
Ira Gitlin) and Squeeze Bayou (MattLevine, Brian Simms, Fred Feinstein,
Kevin Enoch & David Lopez). Both groups are featured on this recording
along with friends Dede Wyland and Ric Sweeny.
Squeeze Bayou Cajun Band plays traditional Cajun dance music
from Southwestern Louisiana. The band plays lively two steps and soulful
waltzes as well as music which blends many styles including country,
blues and Creole. Their material comes from traditional sources and
the vocals are sung in Cajun French. The band's previous CD, "Steppin'
Fast" received the "Prix Dehors de Nous", known as the
"Cajun Grammy" for best recording of a Cajun band outside
of Louisiana. Karen Collins on fiddle & vocals, Matt Levine on lap
steel, Fred Feinstein on guitar, Kevin Enoch on bass and David Lopez
on drums.

The Blue Moon Cowgirls also featuring Karen Collins is
a shimmering trio of female voices backed by the highly acclaimed instrumentalist,
Ira Gitlin. The Blue Moon Cowgirls blend front-porch directness with
neon-lit sophistication as they sing about home and highways, heaven
and honky-tonks, heartbreak and hope. Their repertoire stretches from
the 1920s Appalachia to the Everly Brothers and beyond. The sound of
country music has always been on the move, but its heart has remained
in the same place, and the Blue Moon Cowgirls can take you there. Joining
Karen are Ann Porcella and Dana Ward on vocals, accompanied by multiple
Wammie winner Ira Gitlin.
