She is an honors graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, one of Russia's most prestigious post-graduate schools for folk instruments artists. Svetlana's husband
and musical partner, Vladimir Zakharevich, is an equally distinguished
player of the bayan, a Russian version of the accordion. The duo has performed
extensively throughout Europe and will make their U.S. concert debut for
IMT. Both laureates of numerous competitions in Russia, Svetlana and Vladimir
include classical selections as well as folk arrangements in their extensive
repertoire. The highly-regarded duo consistently amazes and delights audiences
with their musical skill and their warmth of presentation of difficult
material which they make look easy. Svetlana will spend the 2003 year
as conductor in residence for the Washington Balalaika Society, America's
