Legendary Appalachian guitar instrumentalist and luthier Wayne Henderson
has packed American concert halls on all ve "Masters of the Steel
String Guitar" tours, served as a musical ambassador for
the State Department, and been honored at the White House with a National
Heritage Fellowship. In this workshop designed for intermediate guitarists,
Wayne will cover the principles and repertoire of Appalachian flatpick
guitar. Students will learn a number of ddle tunes, Carter Family songs,
and guitar pieces native to the mountains of southwest Virginia.
Henderson is a gifted teacher who will takes lightning-fast fiddle tunes
and breaks them down into phrases that intermediate guitarists can digest.
By the end of the workshop students are performing tunes that seemed
impossible at the beginning of the class. The workshop will be divided
into two 90-minute sessions with an hour to grab some dinner (and give
the fingers a chance to recover). Wayne does not use tab, so students
are encouraged to bring a cassette recorder. Multi-insttrumentalist
Josh Goforth will assist with leading the class. Enrollment is limited
