Rita Clarke and The Naturals - CD Release Concert

Monday, April 21, 8:00 PM

Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring
$12 advance/$15 door

Join us for an evening of inspired New Orleans R&B, zydeco, soul, blues, and Cajun music featuring Rita Clarke and The Naturals. Since evolving from the Cajun-Zydeco scene of the early 90s, the artist born Rita Filippone (aka "The Heata") has proven herself to be an incredibly soulful, versatile, and prolific musician. Her voice soars and softly shivers, surrenders and sasses back with unflinching frankness about matters de amour. The Naturals (formerly the Krewe of Renegades) take their name from the natural progressions in American roots music, and find their inspiration in the deep wells of blues and R&B traditions. The new CD, "Under the Purple Moon," features a variety of soulful genres and styles. What sounds at first like first-class R&B-based arrangements turn out to be small gems whose facets reflect New Orleans R&B, Northern Soul, and Gospel influences.
