"...Musicalia
is an Italian national treasure. The brothers...Ciervo are untiring
collectors of rare music, which they bring to flower with their lively
octet." - James Bau Graves
iMusicalia is an award winning troupe of
traditional musicians and singers from the Compania mountain region of
Italy, near Naples. Led by folklorist brothers Amerigo and Marcello
Ciervo, the band was formed nearly 30 years ago, has released more than
10 albums and performed all over the world. Taking root in the Italian
Renaissance, their music is redolent of Italian folk melodies and even
some Middle Eastern sounding elements as well.
Their mind boggling lineup includes: Amerigo Ciervo,
accordion, barrel-organs, voice; Marcello Ciervo,
guitars, mandoloncello, bouzouki, voice; Fabio Crisci,
bass guitar, voice; Gina Leo, castagnettes &
voice; Michele Iuliano, violin; Elisabetta
Landi, tammorra, tambourine, voice; Mario Parente,
trombone, flugelhorn, keyboards; Corrado Ciervo,
tammorra, drums; and Antonella Noviello, voice.
iMusicalia’s 2006 Tour is a production of Jefferson Center,
Roanoke, Virginia. It is made possible through a grant from the
Campania Ministry of Culture and is supported by the Mid Atlantic Arts
Foundation.
