A Bob Zentz concert is a smorgasbord of contemporary, traditional and
original songs, tunes and chat, linked by
the artist's philosophic perspective,
thematic-logic and a strong sense of history, humanity and humor. Bob
performs on a variety of acoustic instruments, including guitars, dulcimers,
banjos, autoharp, concertina, melodeon, cittern, jew's harp and harmonica,
and involves his audiences with shared choruses and related ideas. From
traditional Celtic tunes and ballads to science fiction songs, and sea
chanteys, from tales of "old timers and old rhymers", to musical
poetry, each show is a unique testimony to Bob's vast repertoire and
varied personal interests.
The Pyrates Royale began as an improv comedy troupe early in 1987. The
four founding miscreants, veteran character actors at the MD Renaissance
Festival, decided to
raise havoc at the next festival as a merry crew of pirates.
Surprisingly, nobody tried to stop them. The Pyrates Royale have since
evolved into a musical comedy act. Now armed with guitar,
hammered dulcimer, bodhran, fiddle and concertina, as well as a hearty
chorus of hale and harmonious voices, the group has expanded its repertoire
to include instrumental tunes, Gaelic, and even a madrigal or two. However,
the crew has never strayed too far from its original purpose: to make
people laugh.
