Singer Grace Griffith
has been collecting "seasonal" material for Halloween and Samhain
(celtic new year) since her days as a member of The Hags and later
Connemara. For years she and musical cohorts such as pianist Paul
Nahay and hammered dulcimer mistress Jody Marshall
have presented concerts to celebrate the season, its folklore and fun.
This year the revue comes to the Institute of Musical Traditions with a program guaranteed to bewitch all who enter. Grace, Jody and Paul will be joined by Dave Abe on fiddle and singer/songwiter Carey Creed, and they'll be conjuring up some mystery guests as well. You never can tell who or what may be appearing...The repertory will range from haunting ballads and vocal harmonies that raise goosebumps to fiery fiddle tunes lively enough to wake the dead. A healthy bit of levity will be mixed in the cauldron, too, so come prepared to laugh.
Special guests: Marcy Marxer, Jennifer Cutting, 3 Norse Altos, The Manshees, Ethel Merman (rumored), and the Mermaid from Hell.
