In 1965, Danny
Kalb founded Verve/Folkways recording group The Blues Project
with Al Kooper, Roy Blumenfeld, Andy Kulberg, Tommy Flanders and Steve
Katz, which flourishes even today with in-demand/sold-out shows and
numerous album reissues/compilations. IMT’s president, David Eisner,
treasures the memory from his high school days of seeing the Blues
Project live at the Café a Go-Go in Greenwich Village. From folk
to blues to jazz, Danny Kalb’s experimental mindset and talent has
played a significant part in redefining musical genres and boundaries.
Now touring with his current trio, he brings his incendiary, guitar
style to a new generation of students, musicians and fans, and his
touch on the guitar is as exciting and as individual as ever! A
protégé of the great Dave Van Ronk, Danny was first known
as a solo performer and session player with Phil Ochs, Judy Collins,
Pete Seeger and others, and later in The New Strangers duo
with Sam Charters.
