Considered to be a virtuoso of tremendous influence
in the revival of the hammered dulcimer, Walt Michael's wide repertoire
ranges from old-time Southern Appalachian, to Celtic, to breath-taking
original compositions. His 35 year career has taken him from the coal
camps of Appalachia to the Closing Ceremonies of the 13th Olympic Winter
Games.
Walt is the Artist-in-Residence at McDaniel College in Westminster,
Maryland as well as Founder and Executive Director of Common Ground
on the Hill, an international arts organization which seeks to promote
interracial and cultural harmony through traditional arts. Walt’s
friends tonight are two musicians well known to IMT audiences: Alexander
Mitchell on fiddle and Ralph Gordon on Bass. The Sixties style folk group, Don’t
Look Back, will open the show.
The Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition (MCRC) is a non-profit, state-wide,
consumer organization that represents consumer interests on a broad
spectrum of consumer issues through both education and advocacy. It
has gone to bat on fair credit, predatory lending, energy conservation,
and gun control, to name a few. As a membership
organization, it supplements its budget through grants and fundraisers
such as this.
